On 26 September, starting at 5 p.m., the campus of the Biomedical Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Krč came alive with a unique Researchers‘ Night program. More than 900 visitors, both on site and online, enjoyed lectures, interactive activities, and creative workshops that showed science can be fun and inspiring for all generations.
The event was jointly organized by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMG), the Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Institute of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
The diverse program included a lecture series on the heart, fat, genome and fungi. This lecture series, entitled The Wealth of Biomedicine, aroused great interest both among the attendees and online viewers. The talks introduced the latest findings about the human body in an engaging and accessible way.
A major highlight was the educational trail at the Institute of Molecular Genetics. Children and adults alike learned about digestion, oxygen transport in the blood, DNA packaging, protein cutting, and the principles of sequencing. Using UV light, they searched for the correct base pairs while exploring corridors of the institute normally closed to the public. A creative zone was also available, where participants could make a genetic pendant or a necklace from test tubes.
In addition – at other institutes – visitors were offered interactive memory and orientation tests, an introduction to their own microbiome, or the opportunity to glimpse into the fascinating microworld. From the very beginning, the evening was filled with enthusiasm and a friendly atmosphere. The satisfaction of more than nine hundred participants proved that science can attract, educate, and entertain the public. We would like to thank all visitors for their interest and energy, which gave the event its unique spirit, and extend our deep gratitude to all employees who contributed to the preparation and smooth running of the evening.
