The aim of the course is to bring information about developments in areas of molecular biology, genetics, biomedicine and biotechnology.

TIME AND PLACE
The course takes place 29.10-9.11. 2018 in the Milan Hašek Auditorium at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences at Videnska 1083, Praha 4 – Krc in the Krc biomedical research campus (building F). To reach the campus, you can either take Metro C line to the Kacerov station and then bus 138 to the station Ústavy Akademie věd, alternatively Metro C line to the Budejovicka station and then bus 193 to the station IKEM or Zelene domky and then walk to the gate of the campus (it’s exactly half way between the two stations).

COURSE PROGRAM
There will be ~ 40 presentations concerning the following topics: genomics: human genome structure and evolution, nuclear microarchitecture – function and regulation, telomeres and aging, telomeres, rDNA and chromosomal stability, plant genomics – analysis of complex plant genomes; epigenetics: epigenetics of hematopoietic malignancies, epigenetic inheritance and centromere, targeted genetic and epigenetic modifications, RNA: RNA polymerase and gene expression, alternative splicing, RNA metabolism, piRNA, RNA modifications; proteins: eukaryotic translation, protein structure – X-ray crystalography, proteomics, proteases, prions, proteases of human pathogens; cell biology: microtubules and signalization, flagella and cilia of eukaryots, membrane microdomains, cellular iron metabolism, antioxidative defense, retroviruses and mobile elements, molecular tricks of bacterial pathogens, DNA damage checkpoints, developmental biology: oocyte biology, hematopoiesis stem cells and pluripotency, ameloblastin and enamel development, insect models and hormonal regulation of development; biomedicine: immunology & cancer immunotherapy, mitochondria – a target for cancer therapy, genetics of autism and mental retardation, rare genetic disorders, circadian rhythms, tropical diseases. Workshops: career development in academia and beyond, scientific writing, postdoctoral interviews, research ethics and unethical behavior.

All talks will be given in English by Czech and foreign experts. Attending students will receive credits and will obtain access to presentations stored at a protected website. Course fee is 2900,- CZK (incl. VAT) per person and should be paid via bank transfer according to instructions received upon filling up the registration form.
