Open Postdoc Position in the Biology of Trypanosoma brucei

22. 1. 2024

Laboratory of Cell Motility headed by Dr. Vladimir Varga is seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to study changes to the cell architecture during differentiation of Trypanosoma brucei.

Project description

Our research group focuses on the biology of the eukaryotic cytoskeleton. In this project we aim to study changes to the microtubule-based cytoskeleton, the flagellum, and the overall cell architecture during differentiation processes associated with life-cycle transitions of Trypanosoma brucei, a protozoan parasite causing sleeping sickness. To achieve this, advanced imaging techniques, such as expansion microscopy and electron microscopy will be employed. Furthermore, candidate proteins for orchestrating cytoskeletal changes will be studied by generating and characterizing mutant trypanosome strains.

Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Parasitology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related disciplines
  • The excitement of making discoveries
  • The motivation to lead a project
  • A good command of English
  • An experience in handling protozoan parasites would be favourable

We offer

  • A full time contract funded by a grant from the Czech Science Foundation
  • Additional benefits such as a 5-week annual leave, meal allowance, an access to courses organized by the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IMG) and the Czech Academy of Sciences, an access to sport facilities of the IMG
  • We are a young, friendly research group passionate about science. We collaborate with leading scientists in the Czech Republic and abroad. The IMG offers superb research facilities and is a vibrant institution located in a modern building.
