IOCB Tech, a subsidiary of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (IOCB) oriented on technology transfer, has donated CZK 7 million for research and development of new diagnostic tests for COVID-19. CZK 2 million were provided to Dr. Petr Bartůněk from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences; Dr. Ruth Tachezy and Prof. Ivan Hirsch from the Faculty of Science, Charles University received CZK 5 million.

“The team of scientists around Dr. Petr Bartůněk are just completing creation of a really powerful test line using advanced robotic technologies and will prospectively be able to test up to 1,000 samples per day,” says Jan Konvalinka, Vice-Rector of Charles University for scientific activities and coordinator of academic laboratories participating in coronavirus testing. This robotic station is part of the equipment of research infrastructure CZ-OPENSCREEN, which is focused on identification of new molecular probes and tools for research and validation of compounds suitable for the development of new drugs. It will now also be used to test the population for the presence of coronavirus.
