Head of the Genome Engineering and Model Generation Unit

27. 5. 2025

The Czech Centre for Phenogenomics at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, a member of the IMPC and INFRAFRONTIER consortia, offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated expert to lead the Genome Engineering & Model Generation Unit within the Transgenic and Archiving Module (TAM).

This is an exciting opportunity to oversee cutting-edge research and services in the development of genetically modified rodents, utilizing the latest genome editing technologies. The unit provides comprehensive services—from gene-targeting design to generation, cryopreservation, and breeding of rodent models for phenotyping and research.

Your responsibilities

  • Leadership & Management: Lead and coordinate the entire model production process—from initial design to genotyping and colony management. Supervise the team of laboratory technicians, oversee services, experiments, and ensure smooth workflow within TAM.
  • Hands-on Technical Work: Directly participate in generating genetically modified rodents (mouse, rat) using methods such as microinjections, electroporation, and surgery; ensure quality control and validation of models.
  • Analytical Skills: Analyze and interpret genotyping data using various strategies to confirm model integrity and quality.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Liaise with users, clients, and international partners (INFRAFRONTIER/EMMA), ensuring clear communication and excellent service delivery.
  • Innovation & Research: Drive technological development by initiating new research projects aimed at developing innovative gene editing methods and new rodent or cell-based models.

Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent in molecular biology, genetics, cellular biology, medicine, or a related field, with experience in genome editing and transgenic technologies.
  • A strong interest in learning and mastering new methods and techniques.
  • Authorization to work with laboratory animals (rodents).
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate a team effectively.
  • Proficiency in English (B2 or higher) and familiarity with office software and public databases.
  • Experience with scientific publishing is an advantage.

We offer

  • An engaging international environment within a leading scientific institution.
  • Opportunities for professional growth, pursuing your own research, and participating in national and international collaborations.
  • Data analysis and language courses.
  • Participation in high-profile international conferences to showcase your research.
  • Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package (food allowance, kindergarten, sports/culture/pension contributions, and more).
  • Flexible start date.
  • Full-time position based in the CCP building on the BIOCEV campus in Vestec near Prague.
  • Initially offered for 12 months with the possibility of extension based on performance.
