Head/Deputy Head of the Transgenic and Archiving Module

The Czech Centre for Phenogenomics at the Institute of Molecular Genetics, a member of the IMPC and INFRAFRONTIER consortia, is seeking motivated and responsible candidates for the position of Head/ Deputy Head of the Transgenic and Archiving Module.


The Transgenic and Archiving Module (TAM) is responsible for the generation of genetically modified mouse and rat models using state-of-the-art technologies and is in the process of establishing targeting of cells and cell-based models such as organoids or 3D models.

TAM provides a complete service from initial gene targeting design, generation of tools and transgenic rodent models to genotyping, cryopreservation and breeding of the required animal models for phenotyping.

Job description

  • Lead, supervise, collaborate: You will be responsible for managing the overall operation and development of the TAM, supervising services, and experiments, managing a team of laboratory technicians and coordinating their work within the TAM. You will ensure seamless collaboration with other CCP modules
  • Expertise: A solid foundation in (mouse) genetics and molecular biology is essential; genome editing, and ESC technologies are highly advantageous, as is expertise in the generation of genetically modified rodent models (mouse, rat), including cohort establishment and animal breeding
  • Other technologies required: cryopreservation and resuscitation technologies
  • Analytical skills: Ability to analyse genetically modified laboratory animals using different genotyping strategies
  • Communication skills: Need to deal with enquiries from national and international users and clients and communicate with our consortia partners (INFRAFRONTIER/EMMA, IMPC)
  • Research and development activities: You will be encouraged to set up research projects to develop and establish new technologies and new rodent and cell-based models

Requirements

  • A degree in biology, veterinary medicine, medicine, or a related field
  • Knowledge of (mouse) genetics, molecular biology and working with rodent models
  • Genome editing technology is an advantage and must be acquired
  • Interest in establishing and developing new methods and techniques; interest in developing research projects
  • Medical fitness to work with laboratory animals and animal samples (rodents)
  • Fluency in English and familiarity with office/database software

Contract details

  • Full-time position, initially available for 12 months, with potential for longer-term extension based on demonstrated ability
  • Flexible starting date
