PhD Programme

Interview is organized by the IMG to select students with the prerequisite for scientific work. The aim of the interview is to help the candidates to find a suitable supervisor.

The selected candidates will then apply to study at a college or university that is accredited to award the PhD degree.

The graduate board is the accredited body that administers PhD programmes at colleges and universities and decides on the admission of PhD students to the programme.

For the interview with the PhD committee, prepare a maximum five-minute English presentation of your thesis (i.e. 5-6 slides). The aim of the presentation is to present the topic clearly to people who do not understand the subject in detail and to acquaint the committee with the most important conclusions of the thesis.

Dedicate one slide to the design of the most important experiment or method you used to obtain the experimental results of your thesis.

The presentation is followed by a discussion based on the topic presented. During the same day, you will also have an individual interview with the supervisor you are applying to. Any special requirements will be communicated to you in advance.

You can, but you need to contact the PhD Coordinator immediately.

Regardless of the deadline, you can also contact your chosen supervisor to arrange an individual interview.

The purpose of the interviews is to make it easier for group leaders (or future supervisors) to select from candidates for the PhD programme through their evaluation by the PhD committee.

However, the decision to accept a PhD position is entirely up to the supervisors – i.e. you can be accepted even if you and the group leader agree after the interviews. In this case, though, you risk that the position you are interested in will be filled by another candidate already during the interviews.

All offered positions are open. If the supervisor makes prior arrangements to fill a position with a student from their lab, the position will not appear in the listing.

Once you have been accepted for postgraduate studies, you are entitled to an undergraduate fellowship for the first four years.

By joining the PhD programme, you will also become an IMG employee and will receive appropriate financial compensation.

Health insurance is obligatory for all employees in the Czech Republic and is automatically deducted from the salary. The insurance covers basically all health care expenses.

We offer accommodation for new PhD students directly on the Krč campus next to IMG. However, it depends on the available capacity of the guesthouse. Please contact the Building Maintenance for more information.

As a PhD student, you are entitled to accommodation in a student dormitory, but most students rent an apartment. The cost of dormitory accommodation varies according to the type of accommodation and location.
