Application and admission procedure

The official round of PhD application for 2024 is closed. If you are interested in any open position, please contact the supervisor directly.

On-line application deadline29 February 2024
Official on-line interviews with shortlisted candidates25-26 March 2024

You can apply to the IMG PhD Programme either 1) through a formal application process (1 to 3 open positions can be selected at a time – see procedure below), or 2) by individual agreement with the head of the laboratory.

First step: submitting your application

Start by selecting the topics you are interested in and completing the on-line application form. In it, please specify in which research laboratory you want to do your dissertation, your previous experience and your motivation for PhD studies

Second step: interviews with group leaders – IMG Interview Day

Once you have successfully submitted your application, we will contact you to arrange a personal or on-line interview with the heads of the selected groups and committees.

The meeting includes, among other things:

  • presentation of your undergraduate research (e.g. as part of your thesis or internship – see FAQs about PhD studies),
  • discussion about your motivation for PhD studies,
  • basic knowledge of the topic of your expected dissertation,
  • room for your questions, a tour of IMG and selected laboratories.

We will inform you about the outcome of the admission procedure by 15 April 2024 at the latest. If you are accepted, the head of the selected laboratory will also contact you to discuss the next steps (see details on the Organization of Study page).

The final step: admission to doctoral studies

After admission to the research laboratory, you still need to successfully complete the admission procedure for doctoral studies at the university.

The application for PhD studies must be submitted by 30 April 2024 (see the Organization of Study page for details). The application form usually includes an annotation of the agreed PhD project.

Admissions are usually held in June. This is a formal interview at which the applicant is asked to present his or her previous studies and experience, as well as the planned PhD project. In some cases, the interview can be conducted on-line. For more information, please see the individual courses on the Organization of Study page.

If you have any questions, please contact the PhD Coordinator.
